Morganton Point Camping Recreation Area

Campground Information

Morganton Point is truly a beautiful place for camping or just a day visit, come experience the beauty and solitude of the North Georgia Mountains. Overlooking beautiful Lake Blue Ridge, Morganton Point is an ideal place to spend time enjoying the great outdoors in the north Georgia mountains. This recreation area offers camping, picnicking, boating, and swimming facilities and is open from mid-April until late-October. Of the 43 camping sites available, 16 are lake front with two set up to accommodate larger groups. Each site has a ground mounted cooking grill, picnic table, lantern pole and tent pad. There are two bathroom facilities, one of which has hot showers and both are easily accessible from any of the camp sites. The loop through the recreation area is paved with several campsites and one bathroom accessible for those with disabilities. The campground is broken down into two loops; the upper loop and the lower loop plus there are 6 sites that are walk-in only sites. The walk-in sites are all lake front and are very beautiful. The campsites on the upper loop, 17 through 37 are available on a first come/ first served basis, as well is walk-in sites. Campsites 1 through 20 on the lower loop are available by reservation only and reservations must be made at least 48 hours in advance, these campsites include most of the lake front sites. Please contact Reserve America at 877-444-6777 to make reservations or book on line at www.recreation.gov.

All campsites are allowed up to 5 people per site as well as 2 vehicles per site. Campers and visitors are required to take all trash to the provided trash dumpsters upon departure. Please help keep our National Forest clean. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed anywhere in this campground area or any other area of this recreation facility such as the picnic area, swim area, parking lots, shelter, or the beach and lake shore areas.


Fees:
All the Morganton Point recreation areas including the camping sites require a fee for visitors. The campground fees are from $12.00 to $14.00 per site per night. All fees are enforced by management. Campers and visitors are also expected and required to abide by all Forest Service Rules and Regulations while camping or visiting on Forest Service properties. (Please read the rules and regulations upon entering the recreation area, posted at the fee station and on each campsite number post.)

Directions:
Take U.S. 515 north out of Blue Ridge; (toward Blairsville) travel approx 4.5 miles to the traffic light and junction with GA Hwy 60. Turn right on GA 60 at the Lakewood Intersection. Go to the end of the road and turn left on Old Highway 76 and go about 3 miles to Morganton. In Morganton look for the Forest Service sign for Morganton Point Recreation Area, turn right on County Road 616 and go about a mile, turn left into the campground entrance. The fee station is on the right as you get into the campground area next to the campground host site.

Recreation Day Use Information

Morganton Point Beach & Picnic Area is perfect for those looking to spend the day swimming in the lake or playing in the sand on the beach. There are picnic tables through out the area and a covered picnic pavilion as well. Some enjoy walking the trails that follow along the lake shore between the beach area and the camping area. All and all this is a very unique area and is a great place for all ages to relax, play and enjoy. Parking is located conveniently close to the beach and picnic areas. All visitors are required to take all trash to the provided trash dumpsters upon departure.

Morganton Point Boat Ramp is also located just beyond the beach and picnic area. For those that enjoy fishing and boating this 3,290 acre lake is perfect. The paved boat launch has two ramps and is one of the few boat ramps and public access to the Blue Ridge Lake.


Fees:
All the recreation areas in Morganton Point require a fee for visitors. The fee for day use which includes picnicking, swimming or the use of the boat ramp is $5.00 per vehicle. All fees are enforced by management. Morganton Point Day Use Recreation Area is open from mid-April until late-October and the day use area is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Visitors are also expected and required to abide by all Forest Service Rules and Regulations while camping or visiting on Forest Service properties.
